The least ostentatious aeroplane here, flown by the best pilot
Cessna Citation Sovereign · N6GU
N6GU is a Cessna Citation Sovereign, and on this board it is almost modest — a mid-size jet with a fraction of the range and roughly a third of the price of the Gulfstreams above it. It is the sort of aircraft a regional business buys, not the sort a studio sends for you.
The choice is the point. Ford is the most seriously qualified aviator on this roster by a distance: fixed-wing and helicopters, decades of it, including vintage aeroplanes and, on at least two occasions, flying search-and-rescue in the mountains near his home for people who had no idea who was coming to get them.
He has also had incidents, publicly and in the record, and has been unusually straightforward about them. That is worth mentioning because it is the same thing as the aircraft choice: a person treating flying as a craft with consequences rather than as a way of arriving.
The Sovereign turns up in our log at a steady, unremarkable rate, which suits it. It is a working aeroplane being worked.
